Public Art
Livingston has a strong tradition of featuring public art in public places. As a result of the Livingston Landmark Project in the mid 1990s, an eye-catching sculpture was installed on each of the main roundabouts at the entrances to the town.
The Elements will continue this tradition of supporting public art by integrating stunning architecture with history, culture and art, featuring a number of public artworks both in and around the development area and commissioned from local Scottish artists.
Consideration is being given to a number of artistic features; the shortlisted artists have been given a brief to achieve a relevant and appropriate design that considers the environment of the centre and of Livingston. We have highlighted specific areas of interest in the new centre, both internally and externally, that could potentially be enhanced with artistic features. Initial design proposals are currently being established with a view to detailed designs being available later in the year.
There will also be opportunities for local schools and community groups to play an active role in producing exhibitions and displays within key areas of the centre such as the winter garden and the civic areas.
